About the Book: In this book recounts Wallace's experiences during his service in India from 1805 to 1819, and specifically mentions the utilization of journals in its narrative of the final four years. The author embarked on his journey to India at the start of 1805 and returned in 1819. Throughout this period, he traversed a significant portion of the peninsula, from the Ganges to the Indus. His voyage commenced in Madras, where he explored parts of the Carnatic region. Subsequently, he joined his regiment in Malabar and served in Mysore and Travancore. Fortuitously, his destiny then led him to Bengal, and a few years later, to Bombay, where he was engaged with the army in Guzerat. His military endeavors included the initial invasion of Kutch-booge, a march through Kattywar, and the eradication of pirate hideouts in Okamundel. About the Author: Robert Grenville Wallace (1789-1827) was born in Dublin in about 1789. His father, John, a solicitor with offices in Dublin & Dundalk, may have been born in Rathcarbery, Loughgilly parish. Robert’s mother, Emilia Hoar, died young and John remarried in 1793 to Jane Donaldson. In 1819 encouraged by his father who offered to help support him and his young family he returned to Ireland. He wrote books: Memoirs of India; Forty Years in the World.
